Summer Holiday / Silver Swans® Ballet – M

This is a 5 week class.  We are excited to introduce a ballet exercise class specifically designed by the Royal Academy of Dance based on research into best exercise practice for older people. These classes maintain the Pilates principles of breath, balance and flowing movement to create elegant poise and wonderful posture.  They improve core strength and balance and can help with osteoporosis and falls prevention. Importantly they are sociable and fun.  Although designed for the over 55s, everyone is welcome. Ballet shoes are not essential for your first session but your teacher will guide you should you love it so much that you decide to enrol for the term. Maximum of 10 participants. This is a 5 week class. These Reformer Pilates classes are for those who have had at least 20 sessions on the Reformer either privately or in groups. Movement will become more dynamic and challenging working with a moving platform whilst patterning more complex movement. They are progressively fast in tempo and increasingly flowing in transitions demanding really good technique. Maximum of 4 participants. You are very welcome to join a class once the term has commenced.

Rehabilitation – T

This Pilates-based 5 week course has been designed by our in-house Physiotherapists and is the ideal class for anyone who is rehabilitating from shoulder, spinal, pelvic, hip, knee or ankle injuries but who is not ready to attend a standard Pilates class. There are a maximum of 8 people in a class so very close attention can be paid to each individual. We will commence with basic Pilates exercises and teach you the principles of engaging your core and finding a neutral spine. We will then progress your programme in a graded way each session. It is a safe and structured environment for you to speed up your recovery. This class is designed for those who are still undergoing physiotherapy treatment but have reached the stage where your rehabilitation is becoming more focused on exercise and return to activity and less on manual therapy. Your Physiotherapist will be able to guide you on when it is appropriate to start this class. The class is also suitable for those who have commenced rehabilitation and core stability exercises following surgery and their Orthopaedic Consultant, Osteopath or Chiropractor has advised core stability rehabilitation and Pilates are now appropriate.
