Pilates has reformed me! An article by Sonia Salom

PILATES...We all know we need to do exercise, and most of us do. But how many of us actually enjoy it and can honestly say we see as well as feel the benefits?

As someone who has had more gym memberships than most and has tried just about every exercise trend on the market, one form of exercise that had slipped through my net until recently was Pilates. That was until a friend suggested I visit Pilates Works Studio in Weybridge, which has earned itself the enviable reputation as the largest and best-equipped Pilates studio in the UK.

Pilates Works Studio, Weybridge is located in the High Street. I parked my car with ease (always a major plus for busy people) and took the stairs to a large, light and airy state of the art studio on the first floor. The space is divided to offer a large area for mat classes and a separate area housing an array of incredible looking machines used for individual tuition. These are used for rehabilitation through to the most advanced Pilates sessions.

Sue Wathan, the owner of Pilates Works Studio, Weybridge met me. Sue is very warm and enthusiastic, genuinely interested in each individual’s motivations, body issues and exercise experience; she seemed keen to find the right programme to both challenge me and keep me motivated. And judging by how busy the studio was I concluded she must have something quite special to offer.

“Pilates is really intelligent exercise for incredible results; improving posture, flexibility, tone and leaving you with an evenly conditioned body” explained Sue. “Our clients really look forward to their sessions and because we work one to one or in small groups we can really challenge them...We love it when they surprise themselves with how strong, flexible and toned they can become in a short amount of time”

Sue is understandably proud of her teachers at Pilates Works Studio, Weybridge. “I have an incredibly gifted team of teachers and they all share my passion for Pilates. Their first concern is that each of their clients really enjoys their time in the studio.” Sue asks her teachers to commit to many hours of continuing Pilates education every year which, she points out, is another reason that sets her studio apart from the rest.

Sue took me to another fully equipped studio on the second floor and home to four Reformers dedicated to Reformer Class workouts. All the rage in the US, these classes combine the strengthening and stretching that the classical Reformer offers with added cardio vascular benefits using the Jump board.

In one very efficient hour you can combine the toning benefits of a classical Reformer workout with a highly efficient burst of sustained aerobic exercise to burn calories.

Pilates Works Studio, Weybridge runs these classes every day of the week excluding Sundays. With a maximum of four in a class and structured in 3 levels according to experience, Reformer Classes appear to be the ideal option to work out with a small group of like-minded individuals or indeed with your friends. You still get all the benefits of personal tuition but at half the price!

I have just completed my 9th session at Pilates Works Studio, Weybridge and there’s no doubt that Reformer classes have turned out to be my exercise breakthrough. One piece of equipment has transformed and reformed my approach to exercise. I love it and I love the results. I can already really feel and see a difference. I believe this is the exercise regime I really will stick with!

For a limited period only, Pilates Works Studio, Weybridge is offering Free Reformer Class Taster Sessions. To arrange this please call 01932 820810.
